Daughters of Simone for a Boho Wedding Shoot at The Barn at Willerby Hill

A sorbet palette with an art deco edge – sprinkled with influences from the 1970s – creates the stuff of a boho couple’s dreams in this creative shoot, which is all kinds of pretty.

Dainty, elegant styling touches work perfectly with the venue’s rustic blank canvas of a backdrop, brilliantly coordinated on the day by Kate from The Destination Wedding Co. The colour scheme really does pop in these pictures, and is beautifully offset by the bride’s intricate, vintage-styled silk and lace gowns.

From the minimalist cakes adorned with art deco motifs, and stylish colour block stationery, to the whimsical bouquet in a kaleidoscope of soft pink and lilac hues – this is the dreamiest of intimate weddings for us to both covet and cherish.

Concept

The team says: At the height of summer 2020, we wanted to showcase how small and intimate weddings can still be full of colour, fun and impact.

Our inspiration follows the evolution of the modern boho bride but with a fresh and youthful take. Using a pastel colour palette and soft shapes as a base, the teams at Born Boho and UNVEILED Network Member Bloom & Bridal added layers of iridescent shine and 70s colour blocking for a true maximalist dream.

The free-flowing vibe of the 70s, mixed with an art deco edge and a modern twist of pastel colour pops creates a real melting pot of inspirations. It’s the perfect balance of nostalgia and contemporary styling.

Location

2020, a quiet year for weddings? Not for Debbie and Olivia at The Barn at Willerby Hill. During lockdown, they took the opportunity to host numerous shoots as well as expand and update their already wonderful farm venue. Increasing the capacity to 150 guests – they also added a new ceremony space and accommodation pods on-site. The team kept themselves very busy! We love this laid-back style of venue, with earthy tones and a textured red brick backdrop – the perfect canvas for creativity!

Styling

The standout feature and show-stopper from Born Boho was a trio of split screens at a variety of heights with scalloped edges – hinting towards our mix of art deco and 70s inspiration.

Sugar pop colours are mirrored throughout, particularly in the tablescape, with modern candle holders and the tableware elevated through florals and fabrics. This playful concept brings fun and light with the promise of better days ahead of us!

The fantastic duo at Bloom & Bridal don’t do things by halves. Jo and Jen flooded the split screens with florals! A mix of sweet peas and peonies with dried textures and sprayed gypsophila makes for an abundance of structure, texture and joy for the eyes! The addition of iridescent lilies make it a true maximalist composition. Jo and Jen’s floral concepts really brought the split screens to life.

In iconic micro-wedding style, the couple sipped champagne from 20s style cups at their sweetheart table, surrounded by an abundance of colour.

Our styling was enhanced beautifully by the elegant yet ultra playful stationery designs from Peach Wolfe.

The ‘Queen of Cakes’, Gayle from Where The Ribbon Ends, is prolific in delivering creative briefs and this was no exception. Perfect colour combinations are central to the design and perfectly nestled in the backdrop – the cakes are true show stoppers! Mixing clean lines with soft arcs, ties in amazingly with the 70s modern boho brief.

Attire

We featured Mick from the Come Hell or High Water range from Daughters of Simone. The designer’s silhouettes are inspired by the 70s, with scalloped crochet lace and buttery silk fabrics. It was the perfect choice for the nostalgic theme and soft tones of our editorial. Katey from Ghost Orchid Bride has such a stylish eye for iconic, innovative designs in bridal fashion. This look was paired with classic gold and pearl earrings from Lilley Studio for a youthful design.

Beauty

Unity from UNVEILED Network Member Unity Rhodes Bridal elevated the look by giving our model, Daisy, a Gucci-inspired low ponytail with textured waves. We also added Cfleursdesign ribbon for soft elegance. A fun and stylish look for the laid-back yet trend conscious bride.

Results

The soft and natural tones of Rosanna Lilly‘s edit enhanced the design and inspiration behind the editorial. As an established photographer in the industry, she really brought out the best in the couple during the day, getting many laughs and lighter moments that come through in her photographs. The atmosphere was high on our agenda as we wanted to keep positivity going throughout. This was an easy task as the whole team was so happy to finally be doing what they do best – creating wedding magic!
