Disco Chic. Charlie Brear for a 70s Inspired Wedding Shoot at The Castlefield Rooms

A 70s throwback, a sense of female empowerment and a strong bridal look in the form of an influential and incredibly chic, tailored, white jumpsuit today on the blog and we’re totally here for it!

If the traditional wedding gown isn’t quite your jam and you’ve been looking for something unusual, then feast your eyes on this unreal Carson jumpsuit by Charlie Brear. It was enough to bond our two creatives, Heidi and Catherine, together and inspire a whole shoot feature around the concept of a stylish, 70s glam look, reminiscent of the uber cool Studio 54 disco club of days gone by.

There’s also an eclectic mix of foliage, palms and artichokes, disco balls and metallic gold touches to add that diva pazazz, all set against the gritty backdrop of Manchester city centre and The Castlefield Rooms. We’re even seeing 70s inspired party food and Champagne! No detail has been overlooked here!

LOCATION

Catherine says: Heidi chose this city location in Manchester because we wanted a city vibe for outdoor pictures, and she knew the area. This particular space in The Castlefield Rooms was chosen because of the wooden floor and neutral walls, in keeping with our neutral, anytime look.

STYLING

We wanted a ceremony scene, a daytime look, and an evening set to take our couples through a full wedding day.

Our brief to our room and wedding table stylist, Emily K Weddings, was that we wanted the shoot to have a cosy, stylish, chic, 70s rockstar feel about it, with simple lines but everything pristine with statement lighting from UNVEILED Network Member Love Lights The Way. Apart from the florals, the colours were to be soft white and gold. The gold candles we used were by Savon Claire and crockery was from Whitehouse Event Crockery.

The look of the cake itself and the dessert table was super important to get right too. We wanted sleek rather than anything with a 70s novelty feel. We researched popular wedding and party food from the era, and asked Rachel of Marie Antoinette Cakes to make simple, stylish versions of profiteroles and a three tier cake.

In terms of florals, we decided on something with year-round availability, using one colour and white. We asked Sam of Wildfire Floral Co for something unique, and were delighted to see an artichoke in the bouquet!

The stationery and bespoke Extra Special Touch napkins complemented the shoot colours and referenced the glamorous, glittering era of Studio 54. The stationery was by Papercutt Design.

ATTIRE

Heidi and I became connected by a love of jumpsuits via Instagram, and this was the seed of our creative collaboration. It started with researching the right bridal jumpsuit, and because I’m the kind of gal who loves any excuse to dress up, a superbly cut relaxed dress was found via Charlie Brear, who loaned us, Pallas.

Millie from The White Closet, who stocks Charlie Brear, joined us with the Carson jumpsuit, a striking cape, gold accessories and subtly sparkly Jimmy Choos.

Heidi of course designed the utterly fabulous Amina headdress, which can also be worn as a necklace! The contemporary pearl gold spires design looked superb on our model’s bountiful dark curls. Wedding rings were from London Victorian Ring Co.

The groom’s outfit was the model’s own but the jacket was sourced by me from River Island.

RESULTS

Apart from those travelling on the M62 in a scary storm, once we all arrived, the day was full of buzz and dedication. Everyone arrived with excitement and a teamwork attitude. I love that moment when everything and everyone is in place, and we’re ready to shoot. It felt amazing seeing Heidi and all the creatives looking on and feeling elated at how amazing it was looking. And then it felt even better looking at the pictures and knowing we’d nailed it.

Heidi and I have already created another fabulous shoot, and are planning another for 2021. Here’s to many more!
