Super Styling: Gareth Lambert

A true talent for transforming brides’ hair into cool and glamorous dos for their moment in the limelight has seen stylist Gareth Lambert of Aqua Hair Windermere in high demand for weddings in North West and beyond.

UNVEILED’s Features Editor Rachel Parry finds out where his love for styling began, his pro tips for luscious locks and what he’s currently rating in the world of bridal hair.

I initially trained in all areas of hairdressing at a salon called Browns in Durham, when I was just 16. Later, having moved to the Lake District, I spotted a gap in the market for gorgeous bridal hair as many of the area’s stunning hotels were becoming licensed for weddings.

I started small, then recommendations and exposure through Four Weddings boosted my profile.

I’ve trained with Toni & Guy and on Patrick Cameron courses though I’m largely self-taught as I’m continually teaching myself to do new styles that I spot at London Fashion week or in glossy magazines, such as Vogue and Porter.

Hair trends are moving in-line with fast-paced bridal fashion trends and so it’s important for me to keep an eye on bridal catwalks and to work on styles that will fit with varying looks and themes. At the moment there is a return to elegant and more pared back styles and designs.

While the dress can help determine a bride’s look, it’s still important for them not to stray too far from their own style. A bride should look like a more polished version of themselves, not someone different. So, don’t just grow your hair for the sake of the wedding, I beg you!

It’s better to book a stylist for a wedding sooner rather than later to ensure you get your first choice. It’s also important that you get on well with that person and feel comfortable that they will be in your space on the morning of the wedding.

Braids are still massive in current bridal hair trends but we are also seeing a return to more luxurious and glamorous hair that is simpler but still has volume.

For those looking for something more fashion-forward, I’d suggest a cool, sleek style, such as a simple ponytail or a neat knot at the nape of the neck.
