Boho Brunch. A Rustic Wedding Creative Shoot at The Barns, East Yorkshire

Julia Braime

A floral crown provided the inspiration for this beautiful boho wedding creative shoot at The Barns, East Yorkshire, which captures the intimacy of a wedding brunch through a warm soft palette and dried blooms.

Sumptuous toffee roses and palms work perfectly with the team’s rustic styling touches to craft a brunch backdrop to remember, complete with a cosy assortment of cushions and throws, flickering candles and exquisite crockery and glassware. An upcycled pink piano accentuates the dreamlike quality to this theme, providing a much-coveted focal point within the venue.

The elegant gowns chosen for this shoot showcase the allure of blush nude and champagne hues, and combine with luxurious lace fabrics and floating silhouettes for a dose of true sophistication. A glowy natural complexion and tumbling loose waves work effortlessly with the bride’s relaxed wedding day look, finished off perfectly with a statement flower crown and veil.

Inspiration

M and G Wedding Photography say: The concept for this shoot first came about due to one amazing dried floral crown that Zara from Floral & Lace put together and posted on Instagram. BelleBijoux (another UNVEILED Network Member) commented ‘this needs a shoot’ and the rest is history!

Zara asked us to photograph the shoot and we are so pleased she did! Zara is an amazingly talented florist and such a creative thinker – we knew the shoot would be amazing! Zara was the visionary behind the whole shoot, working closely with the amazing BelleBijoux team.

Location

The Barns, East Yorkshire is simply one of the finest wedding venues in Yorkshire. We were so excited to photograph there again! It’s a wonderful location for a wedding, with such committed and friendly owners in Kate and Ed. The spaces available for photography are perfect too – the quality of light you find in the barns is stunning. As photographers, we always look forward to going back to The Barns so very much.

Styling

Zara decided to do an intimate brunch set up using a small pallet for a low table, and built a boho sanctuary corner from there that was filled with dried floral magic. She based the shoot’s colours and theme around the headbands she had created, together with influences from the venue and overall style she wanted to achieve. This included large pink and natural palms paired with fresh toffee roses, as well as a gorgeous cake from Cakes by Leni and stationery by UNVEILED Network Member Rock Paper Nib.

BelleBijoux knew the shoot’s vibe was super chilled and relaxed, but equally that it needed to show how an intimate brunch table can come together, and they decorated to the max. They wanted to go slightly boho, and knew they wanted to work alongside Born Boho with a mix of her hire products that would complement theirs. And it just worked!

Through a conversation on Instagram, they wanted a piano after seeing a Pinterest pic, so they were on a quest to find one – and that they did! They collected and reinvented her with Frenchic paint, as Penny the pink piano. Team work does make the dream work!

Attire

Zara worked closely with the amazing Sophie at UNVEILED Network Member Elizabeth Lucas Bridal to pick some stunning wedding gowns. Elizabeth Lucas stocks only the most beautiful contemporary bridal dresses – we cannot recommend them enough. Whenever we hear they are supplying the dresses for a shoot we are photographing, we get excited!

Floaty, natural, unique and mis-coloured was what Zara wanted for the dresses, to go perfectly with that toffee colour, rustic feel. A lot of blush nude and champagne coloured wedding dresses with sleeves were used in the shoot.

Beauty

As a perfectionist, Zara chose Neave to model, as she has such a striking look with dark hair – a natural boho statement babe! Zara wanted glowy natural skin and natural loose hair, and Saskia from Sass+Co did this perfectly.

Results

BelleBijoux did a prep set up a few days before, so on the day of the shoot a lot of items were already there and ready to go, so it went amazingly well! It was full of laughs, Zara’s singing, a relaxed environment for all suppliers to interact, all the whilst working their magic. The weather was just perfect, not too warm or too cold, so the lighting in the barn was exactly the right depth. The day couldn’t have gone any better.

Everybody did an amazing job, always giving Zara freedom with her creativity and helping to capture everything perfectly, just as she had envisaged in her head.

As photographers, we have a very relaxed and natural style when photographing weddings – we work the same way with styled shoots. Even when working with models, we want our work to have a natural feel and to look authentic. So, even though we have to do a little posing, of course, we like to let the models have a little freedom. It really is a case of setting up the shot, giving a little direction, and then letting magic moments happen!

Neave is a really talented model and it was great to work with her. The whole feel of the shoot was relaxed – just a bunch of friends getting together to be creative. Photographing shoots like this are so much fun!

One of the standouts from the shoot was definitely the pink piano, supplied by BelleBijoux. We hope it will prove a hit with local weddings – we’d love to see it at weddings we photograph in the future!

We cannot wait to work with all these amazing suppliers again, and we have lots of weddings coming up at the East Yorkshire Barns in 2021 and 2022. We are booking up quickly for 2022 overall, as are all the suppliers from the shoot. So please do get in touch now to check our availability for your big day.
