Amy and Chris chose a pretty, colour popping botanical theme to complement the stunning natural surroundings of The Fig House at Middleton Lodge. Their wedding was featured in Issue 10 of UNVEILED.
the proposal
Chris proposed at a party that I’d arranged at my parents’ house to celebrate my 30th birthday. That morning he’d disappeared, and I presumed he’d gone off to pick up my present when in fact he was at a jewellers in Southport choosing my engagement ring. As the party progressed, Chris announced he wanted to say a few words, whereupon he got down on one knee in front of all our family and friends and asked me to marry him.
the venue
Our wedding took place at the Middleton Lodge Estate in North Yorkshire. Previously known for weddings at its beautiful Main House, we were the second couple to marry in its new additional venue, The Fig House, surrounded by a beautiful walled Kitchen Garden.
At the time of booking, The Fig House was only partly built but we had every confidence that the venue would look its best and the Middleton team really did themselves proud. They have created a very special space, which we will be re-visiting for years to come.
Anna Russell at Middleton Lodge was invaluable in creating our perfect wedding and being lucky with the weather on the day meant that we could get married on the Fig House lawn – my dream come true!
the photographer
Our photographer was the very talented Melissa Beattie. Her fine art style, understanding of light and ability to reflect romance won me over and I knew she would suit our venue perfectly.
Melissa is extremely down to earth and very easy to get on with. Her experience shone through and she achieved the shots we were looking for. Most of what she captured were in the moment, natural and relaxed images, exactly what I wanted. The photographs taken of Chris and I in the garden late in the day were very special as they gave us time to really feel the atmosphere of the wedding together.
Overall, Melissa perfectly captured the spirit of the day with lots of laughter and joy. My family and friends have really been wowed by the images with a few being understandably emotional upon viewing them.
the details
I’ve been a lover of flowers since I can remember so a botanical theme seemed like the natural choice. I didn’t need to over style it and knew natural materials and romantic calligraphy would work with the rustic interior design of The Fig House.
Warm, bright colours are my favourite and I wanted something to pop against the green foliage and bare brick walls of the garden and so coral Peonies became a main element of the florals.
To style the venue, our tables were filled with beautiful single flowers placed in green and clear vases with tealights in between. The milk churns arrangements at either side of the aisle were especially exquisite.
the dress
I picked a dress by Allure Bridals – it was the very first one I tried on. My eyes were drawn to its simple style – it just had lace on the bodice and enough volume to make me feel like a princess but without weighing me down. With the addition of a jewel encrusted veil, the dress felt perfect.
the special touches
With the help of our loved ones we managed to plan our perfect wedding in just seven months. Chris will be the first to admit I did a lot of the organising as it’s my ‘thing’, and my parents especially had a hand in helping – it was a lovely project to work on with them.
