Hi I’m Jane the owner of Birdcage and Dragonflies.
We are a creative furniture/prop hire and events company based in Northumberland, although we also provide our services wider afield including the Scottish Borders, The Lakes and North Yorkshire. We specialise in blank canvas weddings and events where we transform your space from our expansive range of styles from vintage, industrial, classical to bohemian vibes.
Sustainability plays a huge part in who we are as a company. The majority of the items we hire are rescued or made by us (I have a very talented family) and many have had a previous and often very different life. From our range of tables to hire of all different styles, our most popular used to be garage doors sourced from a local village. Some still have the numbers on, but we love that, it’s a great conversation starter… who used to live in Number 40?
We offer a range of services from straightforward hire to our DIY couples to full planning and styling options as well as on day coordination. We can also offer bespoke design and craft service, for making those items our couples just can’t find.
Over the last 2 years we have added to our services by providing our beautiful grazing tables. These become as important as our props in how they work to dress your venue providing a stunning focal point as well as filling up your guests.

Jane and her team were absolutely incredible. So professional and calm in any situation. Jane’s advice was invaluable and knowing that her business came out of planning her own wedding gave me full confidence in everything she said. Her Aladdin’s cave of all manor of event props was literally something out of my dreams. Her beautiful tables and chairs absolutely transformed our venue and it really did feel like we had achieved styling that was unique. If there was one thing that I’d have done differently it would have been to ask Jane to act as on-day coordinator. Jane and her husband are amazing, they work SO hard. They helped us create the most amazing wonderland for our wedding. You must visit their Aladdin’s cave of items- it genuinely had to be seen to be believed. Jane at Birdcages and Dragonflies is THE person you want on board for your wedding! We hired a 'blank canvas' space for our wedding at Hexham Winter Gardens and Jane helped us fill it up with beautiful, quirky and fun things to make it the most special place to spend our wedding day. We wanted to have a warm and relaxed atmosphere for our service as well as a real homemade vibe. We also wanted things for our guests and their kids to enjoy and have fun with, we couldn't have pulled this off without Jane's help! She was on hand with brilliant ideas and pictures, she had fantastic knowledge of what would look good in our venue and sent us prices and measurements at the drop of a hat. Jane and her lovely husband arrived early on the morning before our wedding so we could have as long as possible to get everything done, they also helped us put up the beautiful light fittings that so many guests commented on. We honestly can't recommend Birdcages and Dragonflies enough they had such a huge part in making our day exactly what we wanted. Thankyou for everything.Gemma & Jonny
