UNVEILED Network Member Sophie always had a passion for sewing and beadwork. Her Nannie taught her how to do bobbin lace when she was just 5-years-old and it wasn’t long before she learnt how to bead and sew to perfection.

In her late teens, she trained for two years in costume at the Royal Opera House and was then a milliner for Disney for three years, creating hundreds of beaded headdresses for productions and films all around the world. Sophie loved it but craved more creative freedom and, what we always like to hear, secretly wanted to work in the wedding industry.

She made a veil for a friend who was very behind on her wedmin, and ta dah, Unveiled By Sophie was born! She’s renowned in the wedding industry for creating truly beautiful veils, and her work has even featured in the pages of Vogue. We’re in awe of her talent and can’t wait to share our interview with her – so read on for everything you ever wanted to know about wedding veils and your perfect wedding day look.

A LOVE FOR BRIDAL

Sophie says: The best part of my job is that I can empower women and make them feel beautiful. In a world where we are so often pitted against one another, I love how I can create exquisite pieces which are as unique and individual as my brides.

Brides always come to me at the happiest point in their lives and I think there’s something really lovely about sharing that time with them. Whether you want to spend £100 or £1000, you’ll get the same personal service from me.

I always think, without a veil you’re just a girl in a white dress – add a veil and you’re a bride.

Unlike many shops who import veils cheaply from China, every veil is made to order in the UK. This affords the bride the ability to literally change any – and every – detail of a veil in the existing range or work with me to design her dream veil to perfectly match and compliment her dress. We source exquisite laces and tulle from around the world so not only do you get the best quality veil, but there are endless design options.

We also work directly with the bride’s dress shop to ensure the right length and colour, so it’s a hassle-free experience. We offer such a wide selection of styles of designs – from hand embroidery to lace, crystals to pearls, which means if you can imagine it, we can create it.

The vision of makeup artist, Vicky Jiggins, the shoot centred on her love for all things boho and sleek, and takes inspiration from this most endearing of venues – an historical site that dates back to the 13th century, no less.

Everything from the shimmering tablescape and earthy-toned floral displays to the bride’s bejewelled accessories – not to mention a beautiful wooden arch – all showcase the styling possibilities when it comes to crafting the boho wedding of your dreams with an ultra-contemporary edge.

This shoot celebrates new beginnings for Rebecca of Rebecca Anne Designs as she launches her new collections of embroidered veils, perfect for style-led brides in search of something unique for their big day.

The beauty and magic of an enchanting veil really adds that extra special something to a bridal look. After all, it’s usually the only time you’ll get to wear one! How many of us who played ‘weddings’ when we were younger would’ve ever dreamed of doing it without the makeshift veil tucked in somewhere?!

Rebecca knows all about how important a good veil is and has focussed on crafting her own stunning wedding veil collection. She’s then pulled off a beautiful, light, ethereal styled shoot, showcasing her elegant and delicate designs in exquisite detail, accented by her use of brand colours and both fresh and dried wildflowers, all set against the perfect backdrop of Hirst Priory . We’re excited that her fellow suppliers on this project are also almost all founding UNVEILED Network members, so you know this set is going to be a gorgeous one!

The UNVEILED team never fail to fall for the captivating bridal accessories of Debbie Carlisle. Here, we reveal the Sheffield designer’s 2020 ‘Moonlight’ collection whilst finding out more about her carefully considered approach and beautiful handcrafted creations.

Debbie says: I began designing and making bridal accessories for my own wedding in 2009, and I just couldn’t stop! I’m incredibly lucky to still be creating accessories for brides and wedding boutiques all over the world more than ten years on.

My pieces have a deconstructed, wild and natural, bohemian feel with a classic and sometimes vintage edge. They also have a delicate ethereal element – from tiny hairpins to statement headbands and hair vines.

Rachel Simpson’s collection of signature, vintage-inspired bridal shoes offers luxury, comfort and style all with an affordable price tag. We take a look at her latest Spring/Summer Collection whilst UNVEILED’s Features Editor, Rachel Hirst, talks to the top designer about how her commercial experience, distinctive silhouettes and passion for traditional shoe-making result in beautifully unique heels.

Rachel says: The Rachel Simpson brand began in 2008 with a simple vision: to create a collection of shoes which looked bespoke and were made in the traditional way but that were at an affordable price point for a luxury product.

Previously I’d handmade bespoke shoes in my own workshop whilst also working as a freelance designer for a number of high street brands, and this is when I spotted a huge gap in the bridal shoe market. At the time bridal shoes were either very traditional, satin numbers you’d never consider wearing again or high-end Jimmy Choos, which were right at the other end of the scale with nothing much in between.
