Third time lucky for today’s lovely real couple, Clare and Jack, who finally tied the knot in December with a stunning church ceremony and reception at the historic Holford Estate surrounded by their very nearest and dearest.

Just squeezing a wedding into 2020 by a whisker, Clare and her now-husband Jack decided to marry in between lockdowns, and they’ve certainly managed a lovely day! From the restored and amazing venue to the impressive floral arrangements and four tier cake, this certainly doesn’t seem like anything but the perfect day. As Clare herself says, “Don’t be afraid to opt for a small wedding… all of our special guests said it was the best wedding they have ever been to.”

We’re also totally swooning over the contemporary cool of the chic Jessica Bennett dress and Clare looks beautiful, serene and elegant in it, especially paired with a classic navy for the suits, accented by brighter colours in the flowers decorating the venue.

Proposal

Clare says: We had been visiting the restaurants that were featured on The Trip (a TV show with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydan) and our last restaurant was the Yorke Arms, near Harrogate. Jack took me there for my 29^th birthday and the next day we went for a walk around Brimham rocks. We climbed up one of the rock formations and when we sat down to take in the views, he very nervously asked me to marry him. Obviously I said yes!

Setting

Initially we chose Friday 28^th August to make it one long party bank holiday weekend. There were supposed to be lots of friends and family coming over from other countries. Sadly, Manchester was kept in a tighter lockdown with local restrictions and the original wedding venue was not open so the date was moved to 21^st November, by which time, once again, the country was in a national lockdown with no weddings allowed. We delayed it one more month to Saturday 19^th December to ensure we got married in 2020 and to ensure our grandparents were able to be present.

We had our wedding ceremony at St John’s RC Church, Chorlton. The priest is a family friend and we wanted our families to enjoy the day as much as we would.

In the end, our wedding reception was held at The Holford Estate near Plumbly. Our amazing photographer, Kate McCarthy, had recommended it to us as she knew we were so keen to get married. As soon as we went to visit and spoke to Frances and Hannah, we felt reassured they would make the day as beautiful, special and stress free as possible.

Theme

I didn’t want things overly fussy or to go with a trend that would date. I felt simplicity and elegance was key.

Colourwise, the ushers, groom and bridesmaid were all in navy. Jack and I love the colour and think it’s always elegant and timeless. For the flowers, to make things a little brighter we had whites, pinks, purples and LOTS of foliage to make everything smell beautiful.

So where did it all begin? At college, Scott played in a band but as he confesses, all his friends were much better and inevitably started playing more gigs without him. Scott found himself photographing gigs instead and this led to work with PR companies, bands, and even festivals. He then fell into the wedding industry a few years later once his friends started tying the knot.

As it happens, there are many similarities between festivals and weddings, and Scott simply loves the fast paced action of the day combined with all the fun to be had, and of course, spending time with close friends.

My style is a blend of documentary – what I’d describe as hands-off storytelling of real moments – and relaxed portraiture. Nothing cliche or awkward here, thanks!

ON THE WEDDING DAY

I am close to the action. I focus on quickly making the couple and guests feel at ease with me so I can move around, capturing all the moments as they happen naturally. I don’t want to disturb any interactions, and I like to think that moment would happen whether I was there or not. I am just documenting it, and the funnier the better.

Our style is relaxed, natural, beautiful and artistic. A recent enquiry described our images as ‘cheeky’ which we liked! And we definitely have a sense of fun, but that’s all to do with our couples – we just let people be themselves and funny moments tend to happen without posing or staging them.

If you look through our Instagram feed, you’ll see so many different kinds of images that reflect our style and approach – you’ll see the most romantic moments with couples kissing under dramatic skies, but you’ll also see the silliest moments, with bridesmaids falling over in mayhem on the dance floor. Meet Alex, our UNVEILED Network Member and talented wedding and portrait specialist from the North who, quite simply, loves capturing people’s special moments.

Alex embarked on her photography journey at a young age, and was always playing around with disposable cameras and Polaroids. She then studied for her diploma in film photography when she was 19, and that’s when the real magic happened. Creating images and developing them in a dark room truly captured her imagination.

After having a photography business – Alexandria French Photography – as a side hustle for several years, she then took the leap and turned it into her full-time career when she had her baby.

As Alex says: “Photography is my passion. I chose this career because making people happy through my work makes me happy too. I started up my business because having my little girl made me feel powerful and I want to show her that #girlsarepowerful and that we can do anything we set our minds to. The power of an image is pure magic.”

Alex says: Wedding days are beyond special, and if I had to pinpoint the biggest love – it would be knowing that a couple will get to relive their day through my images. There are always moments at weddings that couples miss experiencing themselves, so it is so lovely for me to think that they will get to see their day from another perspective, too.

Lyndsey says: My style can be summed up as relaxed, fun, light and bright with a pretty fine art touch. I love using natural light and movement to create bright beautiful images that are filled with genuine emotion, so there’s no awkward smiles. My photography style is perfect for couples that want only a few formal posed images, and who lean more towards natural, light and bright photos.

APPROACH

I am a discreet photographer, so I capture your day as it unfolds, with very little hands-on involvement. I want to help make your wedding the most relaxed and stress-free day possible – one where you spend the majority of your time with family and friends, and not posing for lots of photos. I also love capturing images of your guests enjoying themselves, whether that’s cuddles, laughs, selfies, or even their skills on the dancefloor. I will be there for it all!

As well as photographing things as they happen, I’ll also capture beautifully styled images of all the little details you have worked so hard to choose, like your dress, shoes, cake, flowers, and table settings. It’s all part of your day, and memories that you’ll want to look back on.

VIBE

It’s very natural, laid-back and relaxed, not posey and definitely creative, or at least we try to be! A lot of venues recommend us because we tend to photograph in places that no other photographers do, so we have a unique point of view.

I think the only other word to describe us would be fun. We do like to have fun and enjoy ourselves with not only our couples but the guests too. After all, weddings are fun and we want to keep the formalities as far away from the day as we can.

STYLE

We’re very laid-back, but we’re also super organised. Wedding days are a balance between natural and informal photographs, but also a small amount of formal photographs too, whether it be family photographs or couple portraits.

No one likes to be standing around all day, so we like to keep the formalities to a minimum. That way, everyone can just enjoy themselves without having to worry about when they might be needed.

For the most part, we’ll leave everyone to enjoy themselves, not hiding in the background but mingling, chatting and capturing the day from within, where the guests are comfortable with us.

When we’re needed, we’re organised. We’ll round up guests, get them where they need to be (without being pushy) and have them back to enjoying their day in no time.

We also use our time with our couples efficiently and focus on photographing quality over quantity. By doing this, it ensures we are capturing some amazing images, all the while knowing that our couples are only going to be away from their guests for the minimum amount of time possible.

The day isn’t about us taking over. It’s about us fitting in and making sure that the guests and our couples have the best day ever. We want them to spend as much time together on the day as possible, so our whole approach is centred around that ethos.
